THE FIRE DEPT’s productions will reach out beyond the traditional theatre audience to address issues of relevance to the culture at large.  We aim to create theatre that addresses the ways in which our current globalized, accelerated, high-stakes political realities have real, individual, human consequences.  We aim to explore how bridges may be formed between people of different faiths, and how, as a society—both domestically and globally—we might both acknowledge, examine, and transcend barriers of racial, ethnic, and religious difference in a time of increasing polarization.  Through our work, we hope to encourage dialogue among audiences of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

We believe that theatre can open minds to the free exchange of ideas, encouraging an active, rather than passive engagement with the world, and thereby contribute to the development of a thinking, involved citizenry.
